Glossary of Legal Lingo

  1. accessory- Someone who gives assistance to a perpetrator in a crime
  2. conspiracy-the action of plotting or conspiring
  3. manslaughter-the crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought, or otherwise in circumstances not amounting to murder.
  4. involuntary manslaughter-an unintentional killing that results from recklessness or criminal negligence
  5. obstruction of justice-bribery, murder, intimidation, and the use of physical force against witnesses, law enforcement officers or court officials.
  6. murder-to kill a human being
  7. warrant-a document issued by a legal or government official authorizing the police or some other body to make an arrest, search premises, or carry out some other action relating to the administration of justice.
  8. allegedly-used to convey that something is claimed to be the case or have taken place, although there is no proof.
  9. evidence-available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.
  10. circumstantial evidence-evidence that relies on an inference to connect it to a conclusion of fact
  11. hard (direct) evidence-evidence that supports the truth of an assertion directly, without an intervening inference.
  12. trajectory-the path followed by a projectile flying or an object moving under the action of given forces.
  13. ballistics- the launching, flight, behavior, and effects of projectiles, especially bullets, gravity bombs, rockets, or the like.
  14. impede-delay or prevent (someone or something) by obstructing them
